Five ingredients to check on your skincare — right now.

Pick up any skincare product on your shelf. Flip it over. Read the ingredients list. Most people never do this — and most brands count on that. Here is what you need to look for, and why it matters.

1. DMDM Hydantoin

Banned in EU & USA

A formaldehyde-releasing preservative added to products to improve texture and extend shelf life. Over time it releases low-level formaldehyde — a known human carcinogen — directly onto your skin. It is banned in the European Union and restricted in the United States. It remains widely used across Indian personal care products. Baylotte Skin contains zero DMDM Hydantoin.

2. Parabens (methylparaben, propylparaben, butylparaben)

Endocrine disruptors

Synthetic preservatives that mimic oestrogen in the body. Studies have detected parabens in human breast tissue. They are linked to hormonal disruption and are increasingly restricted globally. Baylotte Skin is completely paraben-free.

3. Synthetic Fragrance / Parfum

Top irritant

The word 'fragrance' or 'parfum' on a label can legally hide hundreds of undisclosed chemicals. It is one of the leading causes of contact dermatitis and allergic reactions worldwide. Products that smell beautiful often contain the most problematic ingredient lists. Baylotte Skin uses zero synthetic fragrance.

4. Quaternium-15 & Diazolidinyl Urea

Formaldehyde releasers

Like DMDM Hydantoin, these are formaldehyde-releasing preservatives that are often overlooked because their names are unfamiliar. They are particularly common in lotions, creams, and hair products. Baylotte Skin contains none of these.

5. Artificial Colourants (CI numbers, FD&C dyes)

Cosmetic only

Colour in a skincare product serves one purpose only: to make it look more appealing. It has no benefit for your skin. Many artificial dyes cause sensitisation in people with reactive skin. If your moisturiser is pink or pearlescent, ask why. Baylotte Skin products are completely colourless.
